Hearing loop directory
Hearing loops are the most user-friendly of the assistive listening options and the first choice for many people, offering benefits for individuals and venues alike. Hearing Loss Association of America has started a project that seeks to provide a list of places with hearing loops. This list will be updated with new systems, and includes churches. If you know of a location that should be added, send an e-mail to loop.locations@hearingloss.org. You can also use this address to request a list of loops in a given state or category (such as religious denomination).
An online national hearing loop list, organized by state, is available from Time2LoopAmerica's website at Loop Locator.
Please note: it is up to the place listed to keep their entries up-to-date. If a former UMC has disaffiliated, we have no control over gettng the name changed.
ASL and Find-a-church
The Find-A-Church program through United Methodist Communications now offers congregations a way to communicate their accessibility. Search by zip code to find features such as: Accessible Restrooms; Accessible Entrances; Accessible Parking; Large Print Bulletins/ Hymnals; Hearing Devices; and American Sign Language (ASL) Interpretation (listed under languages).
Promote your congregation’s disability-friendly and accessible features on your Find-A-Church page. A PDF guidance sheet is includes directions on how to update your church site to list these features.
We encourage churches to update their information on Find-A-Church. We are also happy to list any worship service, stream, or archive that includes ASL, captioning, or similar accommodations. Drop us a line at umdeaf@gmail.com and let us know where to find you (or to send an update)! It's always a good idea to check with the location listed, as changes often occur without notice.
